Never thought I'd have to think twice about making this prediction, but I do think that UTSA will handle UIW fairly easily. The Cardinals lost several of the best players from their already porous defense, so I think UTSA should finally find a way to be explosive on offense. UIW will struggle to replace Ra'Quanne Dicken's production from last season, and UTSA should dominate against a pretty undersized front for the Cardinals.

The hometown showdown is probably the least creative name for a very cool event in San Antonio. This is also a special game because it’ll be the two most prominent teams in San Antonio battling for the ultimate bragging rights. Lucky for UTSA fans, it’s the home-opener for the 2019 season.
The Dome hasn’t hosted a home win since last September, and the revamped Roadrunners are looking to change that.
I expect this game to be a show of talent, something the UTSA fan base haven’t seen in awhile. The orange & blue Birdgang is going to come out swinging and put this one to bed early.

This Saturday the city of San Antonio marks the start of the 150th anniversary season of college football with a little history of its own. Never before has the city had two Division I teams play against each other.
With that build up out of the way the fact of the matter is that both teams will have a lot to prove. UIW wants to show last year wasn’t a fluke. Across town UTSA is trying to get back to where they were just two years ago when they were 6-5. Any time both teams are trying to prove something it usually comes down to talent and depth. UTSA has both of those and being in the Alamodome should also help them.

A new season brings new optimism, and — though it was a slow burn this year — I truly couldn't be more excited. I'm ready, and I hope many of you readers are ready as well.
While fall camp has shown apparent improvement for the Roadrunner offense, I think it's wise to temper fan expectations a little bit (whomp whomp). I don't believe UTSA will hang 50 points on anyone right out of the gate, even an FCS opponent like crosstown program Incarnate Word.
Look for the Roadrunners to find their feet in this opener, coming away with a fairly pedestrian margin of victory, a morale boost, and a W on the schedule sheet.

All 5 of the Cardinals losses came from away games last season. Although this home opener is between hometown rivals, it will still be a hostile environment for any opposing team in the Alamodome. Jon Copeland will be returning as Quarterback for UIW this season with a few big weapons on the offense returning as well. UTSA has an intimidating defense that should cause problems for Copeland. Coach Frank Wilson has made some changes to present the new promising Roadrunner Offense. I think it might look a little rough the first 2 games or so. I do think UTSA will find their groove.

UTSA has to be tired of being told how bad they have been for the last year and a half, right? I understand UIW has a chip on their shoulder and all that, but I think they are running up against a Roadrunner team is bigger, faster, stronger, and most importantly more experienced than last year. Not to mention UTSA is probably going to be a little angry since they have not won a game since October 6th of last year.
It is going to be a good matchup. Both teams have something to prove. Both teams want to show the city of San Antonio they are the prominent football program in the city. In the end I just think UTSA will be too much for the Cardinals. Things start close early, but the Roadrunners roll in this one.
