I'm expecting a much improved showing from UTSA this week that unfortunately still won't end up being enough to account for a victory over a team with a winning record. Marshall is downright dominate against the run so expect for Dalton Sturm to be asked to play hero ball yet again. The additions of Juan Perez-Isidoro and Josiah Tauaefa will provide a boost but I still can't imagine UTSA scoring enough points to win this one.

The sane play this week is to take 7-win Marshall and the points against a UTSA squad that seems completely rudderless. But I am not sane, and neither is C-USA football. There are several factors here when calling for the improbable UTSA win: 1) The distance from Huntington will be a factor. 2) Marshall's top two receivers are a game-time decision. 3) Herd coach Doc Holliday wants to avoid a letdown after an emotional win last week, which might point to, in fact, a letdown. 4) UTSA is hungry for bowl eligibility. 5) OL Perez and LB Josiah Tauaefa will play in some capacity. There's no such thing as being "due for a win," but UTSA might have one coming their way even so.

I've been coin flipping this week on my prediction for the game on Saturday. Heads has been Marshall, Tails has been UTSA. That's what the season has come to. That being said it will be senior day at the Alamodome. That could be enough to swing the game in UTSA's favor but they're going to have to grind it out and keep it low scoring. I think they can and I think the seniors will do everything they can to send the home crowd back to the tailgates happy.

Marshall Junior QB Chase Litton has been key to the Herd's 7-3 start. Averaging nearly two touchdowns through the air each game, Litton spreads the ball around well; his favorite target is big man WR Tyre Brady. UTSA has stumbled as of late, after claiming their first power 5 victory in game one and storming out of the gate thereafter. Defensively, this team looks like it has lacked depth at time over the season. For that reason, I think Marshall's balanced offensive attack leads them to winning time-of-possession and the game. UTSA will give it all they have, but ultimately will wear down as the game progresses.

Been going back and forth on this prediction all week. I usually look at all the stats and try to make an educated guess every week but I did not look at anything but rosters for this. I think this game will decided on UTSA’s ability to run the ball plain and simple. If UTSA can get push on the line scrimmage and get Tyrell Clay and Jalen Rhodes some holes to run through UTSA will have chance. If the defense does not get off to a slow start they should be able to contain Marshall’s offense. I just can't pick against Sturm and Davenport on Senior Day. UTSA picks up their coveted big win.
