Coming off an unusual early playoff exit this season, the Lake Travis Cavaliers are looking to regain their Texas powerhouse form and return to making deep play off runs. They’ve got a an eager and willing young receiver to step up and do his part in ’23 WR Nicholas Byrd. Lighting in a bottle is what he is and focused and determined on “I love to see everybody win and I will do my part.” Says the young Cavalier. “We had a good season. Im not gonna sugar coat it or make excuses Round Rock came to play and they just beat us. We will just come back next year and be ready.”He commented on Lake Travis’ early exit from the playoffs.

Listed at 5 ft, 7 inches and 140 pounds Nicholas Byrd is used in a multitude of ways in the Lake Travis Offense. You can find him out wide or in the slot or in the backfield. He may be most dangerous on special teams as he cuts on a dime and can flip the field in an instant. Byrd knows he’s not the biggest and that doesn’t worry him at all. “ Most people see smaller guys like Tyreke Hill or Marquise Brown and watch them, but I take from and watch former DeSoto Eagle and Ohio State player Dontre Wilson.” Says Byrd “He made plays from everywhere I watch his film and take from him. Where ever a play needed to be made he did it.” Byrd finished.

“I’m always looking to score, this is my goal putting pressure on the opponent. I can be more physical too but I like bringing that energy to my team , then hopefully we blow the other team out.” Byrd explained on what he brings to the Cavaliers team. Nicholas Byrd will be sharpening up his skills and getting work in with Coach Duffey and Texas Ice in the 7on7 circuit. “Its my first year on the 18U team and I look to help keep us at the best. The competition level we play against makes you up your game.”

Big plays are a norm for the Cavaliers scoring threat, who is a spark plug for them,”I recall against Austin High I took the opening kick off back for 100 yards. That set the tone it was crazy! At half time we were up 40-0. I ended up with 3 touchdowns and 200 yards in the 1st quarter.” Byrd explained. Not only being able to do things on his own he’s a coachable talent as well. “I was supposed to run a slant but I was pressed and I went into another release move but didn’t run my complete route, and I was open but it congested another players route. Coach talked me up on it and I did what I was supposed to the next time that play was called and I was wide open and went for a score. I was smiling and I always remember to listen to and trust my coaches.” Remembered fondly.

Nicholas Byrd is a nice humble kid who enjoys time with his family and giving back to him community through Church events. He is also a 2 sport athlete who looks forward to playing football and running track at any school that he commits too in the future. He is not currently ranked in the Rivals System.
