Fall is right around the corner. The Roadrunners will report for fall camp on July 31st for year two of the Frank Wilson era. Today we will look at quarterback.

There is no controversy this season. Dalton Sturm does not have anyone looking over his shoulder. The job is his until told otherwise by Frank Wilson. The defense will be great and will likely win UTSA a game or two by themselves in 2017, but if this team wants to take that next step it will be on the arm of Sturm.

There seems to be a lack of confidence in Strum by the fan base. They see his inconsistency from last season and assume this year will be more of the same. I do not agree with that assumption. He will be in year two under Scelfo’s offense, which should yield some positive results by itself. People forget that Sturm has not received the best coaching while in high school or even while he’s been here for the first two years. Now that he has the experience and the coaching, fans should expect for him to lead this team to great things.

Behind Sturm things get a little bit interesting. After the spring true freshman Bryce Rivers was listed as QB2. That might have been a bit surprising to some, but after watching him in the spring game you could see why that was the right call. The ideal scenario would be for Rivers to not have to play and redshirt but I do not think that happens. Not because Sturm will struggle and Rivers will need to be thrown in there (could be the case you never know), but because for the first time in many seasons UTSA might actually afford to sub in their backups due to a large lead.

Junior Manny Harris should not be discarded. He will be the backup if anything happens to either one of the guys in front of him.
