Tis the season! With every season that passes there’s always talent that is loud at home base with proven ability that ends up being a steal. I have comprised a gift list of 10 uncommitted names I believe to be of D1 ability who can be impactful to those who offer.

Trevor Short has played Corner, Safety, Middle/Outside Linebacker, Defensive End at different points this season. He’s been a instinctive game changer at every position and has defensive and special teams touchdown scores. It’s been asked where to play him because he has many positive traits but nothing definitive. The answer is , on the football field where ever you have a need! He’s the Hi football IQ hybrid athlete teams are looking for who has the frame to add good weight.

John Jackson is the real deal! He has the vision and quick acceleration through the holes and breakaway speed to challenge any defense in the country. He posted a multi game long stretch of 200 yard efforts (6)this season. Jackson has very good footwork that doesn’t slow down his speed and he takes great angles to blow by Linebackers and Defensive backs. This is a gem of get for D1 programs. 1,786 yards and 17 touchdowns on the season and did I mention the 6 foot rusher can dunk a basketball! His strengths are patience, vision and speed.

Abdon Mata is a Relentless, High Motor ,highly Instinctive and disruptive Defensive lineman. He anchored the State semi finalist D-line. He finished the year with 109 tackles ,27 tackles for loss ,12 Sacks , 3 forced fumbles and 5passes defended this year. He gets after everything. Never a short coming on effort, focus and intensity.

Lance Beeghley is a serious talent. He’s got a 78 inch wingspan and a knack for snagging difficult passes. He gets up field with urgency with good long speed . He looks to get yards after the catch and doesn’t run to the sideline for security. He’s a competitor and playmaker. He tallied 62 receptions for 955 yards and 13 touchdowns this season.

Jussiah Ali is a defender who puts all offensive linemen on notice when he takes the field. He’s played Nose Guard most of Highschool but played mostly edge in a 3 man front this year and continues to impress. Good first step and get off on the snap and relentless with power and a mean streak. Senior year he accumulated 60 tackles 20 tackles for loss and 10 sacks.

Jake South is a raw talent big armed quarterback who has the build that D1 schools value. More than just stature , Jake has confidence and work ethic to go along with dedication to his craft. He possesses good pocket presence and can move around as well. He can make throws to all 3 levels with accuracy. In his 1st complete season he torched defenses for 53 Touchdowns and for 4400 yards. He’s just barely scratching the surface of possibilities in his abilities.

Tony Diaz is a player who brings the action at every encounter with the football. He’s a wide receiver but played defense as a Safety as well. He makes spectacular catches with breakaway speed and great jumping ability. He’s a special teams threat and has touchdowns in every phase of the game. He’s a gamer, physical and exciting player. 1100 yards receiving 17 touchdowns and a pick 6 touchdown.

Kehinde Atunrase has been a consistent beast performer from Defensive End, Tight End and Receiver. Incredible catch ability with hands that measure 10.8 inches he rarely drops a pass and 1 hand snags are a normal occurrence. He’s a powerful runner after the catch as well. He’s already physically college ready with a body comp of Shannon Sharpe.

Zhakius Thomas is one of the hardest working and detailed training players in San Antonio. He is a fierce attacker of the football and has a variance of moves to elude blockers. He changes direction well in pursuit and shows elite strength in the tackle. He has NFL lineage as well and his creativity and hand placement show it.

Tyree Johnson is a home-run tailback who has a nose for the endzone. He finishes off each run strong and can deliver punishment as well as breakaway from tacklers. He’s a all purpose back who gets the job done and a chain mover. Coming off a stellar junior year (838 yards) Tyree ascended and was a prime component of the offense with 210 Carries for 1544 yards and 19 Touchdowns. With 350 + carries only 3 career fumbles.
