UTSA makes program history on Saturday night when the Roadrunners play the number two ranked Texas Longhorns: the Horns are the highest ranked team UTSA has ever played in football. However, the history of a first win over a ranked team will not be achieved by the Roadrunners on Saturday. Texas is simply too good to let that happen. Someday the Roadrunners will pull the top-two upset. Saturday will not be that day.

From one in-state rival to another UTSA once again heads up to Austin to face the Texas Longhorns at DKR Stadium. Some soul-searching was needed after last week for UTSA. Shocking almost everyone with a poor performance against TXST. Meanwhile, UT is almost as hot as the sun at the moment. I expect UTSA to show some fight in this one.

For the Roadrunners this weekend, the problem is not that they face a more talented team in the Longhorns, although that’s apparent. The problem is that UT Austin is firing on all cylinders, while UTSA seems like they’re in the auto shop with all the mechanics out sick.

Yes, the Texas State loss was rough, and the win in the season opener wasn’t a great team performance either. The goal now is simple, even if it’s not easy — use the next two weeks as a mental reset. Put aside distractions and concern yourself with playing your best game. The rest of the season will fall into place.

UTSA had a game to forget last weekend in San Marcos, as they fell 49-10 to the Bobcats. Unfortunately, it does not get any easier this Saturday as they travel to Austin to take on the No. 2 Texas Longhorns. They are coming off an impressive 31-12 win in the Big House over the defending national champion Michigan Wolverines. The Roadrunners will be clearly over matched as the Longhorns have been rolling, scoring 83 points in two games this season. This one could get pretty bad and out of hand by halftime. But the Roadrunners will play hard and get some game experience for some younger players.

This is a game where the Roadrunners can let it all hang out. There will be a lot of familiar faces playing against each other due to high school and recruiting but, there are a lot of unknowns with the UTSA program in aspects of who they are offensively and defensively. Going against one of the best teams in the nation and coming out with a victory is a mustard seed faith moment; the players and coaches need to move the mountain that is the Texas Longhorns. The element of surprise from their initial meeting 2 years ago won’t be surprising this time around.

Don’t think this is the way these first two weeks were supposed to go for the Roadrunners. I think Jeff Traylor would agree. I personally underestimated how much the turnover in the offseason would affect this team. It was natural for this season to start slow for Traylor and crew. However, I do not think it is natural for a team to lose to their rival by that high of a margin. There are some big issues this team needs to work out. Unfortunately playing the number two team in the country isn’t going to help. Horns roll in Austin.
