The three things UTSA can do to improve its chances of pulling an upset at Texas this week

NO PRESSURE

The Roadrunner’s passing game will have to take advantage of the fact that Texas only has 1 sack this season. It’s not for lack of trying as Texas has 15 “pressures”. So there will be time at moments in the pass game to make the right decision and get positive yardage in the air against the Longhorns . UTSA has an experienced enough line to afford their passer some time, moving the pocket coupled with their receivers speed gives them opportunities at success.

NORTH/SOUTH

Texas will have a size advantage in the trenches, which conventionally thinking you wouldn’t want to run at. But they don’t have their renowned defensive tackles to anchor their defensive line this season. They have to show consistency for “this version of Texas”.You get in more trouble going east/west against Texas than you will going north and south. A concentrated effort to run between the tackles more often than not will reap more benefits than trying to run around them and initiating the Linebackers and Nickel Defensive backs.

FILM FIELD FREE PLAY

On the Defensive side of the ball the Roadrunners will need to play fast and trust their film study. They have to do this in order to play with their highest level of athleticism and speed. Texas likes to use motion and try to gain number advantages . So the film room and responsibility assignments in different formations will be key to know in order to play as free and fast as possible. The key group on defense to me will be the linebackers in this game their assignments and performance can make or break the success of the defense.
