This week could be called the struggle bowl. UTSA and Florida Atlantic are both 2-4 and 0-2 in conference. It's a far cry from this time last year when the two teams played in Boca Raton sporting 2-0 records in conference play. UTSA is looking to avoid an 0-3 start in conference play for the first time ever. As long as the Roadrunners can avoid seeing more laundry than a washing machine in the form of penalties they should be able to use the home field advantage to get an important win. If not then that final record looking like the area code might move closer to happening.

After a handful of subpar performances, the Roadrunners welcome FAU to the Alamodome this Saturday. FAU has had its own struggles, and both teams are looking to turn the page. UTSA will be dealing with a depth chart that is lacking this week, so fixing their penalty troubles might have to come another week. FAU has hung with some tough opponents this season, but can't quite hit that next gear that sends them to victory. I think this week will be a very close game, and winner will be decided by who has the ball last.

What a change a year makes. Almost exactly a year ago, FAU and UTSA were both near the top of the conference standings vying for the chance to appear in the AAC championship. The Roadrunners ended up winning that game handily, 36-10, before barely missing out on a championship appearance and going on to win their bowl game.
This year, the two programs are playing like some of the worst teams in the country despite the talent on each roster. Of course, that’s not a permanent condition, and if college football has taught me anything, it’s that success and failure are both constantly in flux. Which team will turn it around this week? Someone has to win, right?

UTSA (2-4, 0-2 American Athletic Conference) returns home to the Alamodome on Saturday afternoon to face Florida Atlantic. After dropping their last two games on the road, including a tough one to Rice last weekend, playing at home might be the thing they need to turn things around. Either the Roadrunners or Owls, who have identical records, will get their first AAC win and still have an opportunity to make a bowl. If UTSA can avoid turnovers and limit the penalties (28 flags in the last two weeks), I like them getting back in the win column.

Both these teams are happy to see one another with hopes of changing their seasons around. This can turn out to be a game with some unexpected plays and performances or a matchup of your record explains the performance of the match up. The biggest slider in this game is Dome field advantage for the Roadrunners. I lean on that in my prediction as the Jekyll and Hyde season goes on for UTSA. The Roadrunners have been in better games, so I edge it to them making the positive changes, but I see it being an old school cardiac kids performance.

Well, the Roadrunners of old did not appear as I originally thought. UTSA is playing like one of the worst teams in the country right now. I do not think they are one of the worst teams, but they are sure playing like it. FAU is not that far behind them. This one is simple for me: If Cam Fancher plays, the Owls will win. If he misses the game due to his turf toe I think UTSA pulls this one out.
