UTSA opens conference play on the road for the third straight season and the Roadrunners are looking for their fifth straight conference opening win. In the Jeff Traylor era the Roadrunners seem to flip a switch once conference play begins. They made it through non-conference 2-2 and with a little momentum off the win over Houston Christian. They will continue to carry that momentum into conference. Their visit to Greenville should end as so many other conference road trips have before in recent years. With a close, hard fought win.

ECU welcomes UTSA into Greenville for the first game of conference play. UTSA is coming off a game last week where every look was working. Now, they'll be tested as ECU has arguably the best defense in the conference. ECU is looking to get back into the win column, as they took a hard loss last week by almost beating Liberty. One thing I'm going to look for early in this game is who is moving the chains on offense. If UTSA can keep ECU's defense out there long enough, I think they'll have a shot in this one. Look for ECU to come out strong, and see if UTSA flinches.

Before the season, I had the ECU game picked as a trap game, a let down game, a loss, however you’d like to call it. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen enough from UTSA yet to feel confident in changing that prediction. ECU may not be in the upper echelon of the AAC, but it doesn’t matter: it’s a tough road environment for a Roadrunner team that has yet to fully gel.

Many individual pieces of a great team are present for UTSA, but so far there has been a lack of leadership and cohesiveness — two attributes that can determine the success of a season. On the other hand, after last week's positive result, there’s a chance that UTSA has turned the corner and comfortably wins on Saturday. Let’s see it.

UTSA opens AAC play on the road against East Carolina after getting a home win last week against Houston Christian. The win against the Huskies could have been just what the Roadrunners needed to get themselves right, as they scored 45 points and had over 500 yards of offense. UTSA will need to have another good offensive day, as the Pirates are only allowing 18.2 points per game, which is 41st in the FBS. I think that is what will happen, and they will get their first conference and road win of the season.

The Roadrunner’s defense will need to prove itself on the road for the first time this year. I think the Pirates will provide the UTSA defense with opportunities to separate themselves and leave with a victory. Will the Roadrunners offense be able to continue the positives from their home performance? I think there will still be questions offensively but they will scrape out a win.

This is a pivotal game for the Roadrunners. A win here and a path to an AAC Championship Game is there. A loss in the other hand will likely have the Roadrunners fighting for bowl eligibility the rest of the way. These first four games have been a whirlwind. Are these Roadrunners more like week one and week four? Are they more like week two and three? I have not seen enough to think this team will turn it around and play at a AAC contender level.
