Get to Know 210: Shane Johnson

I was able to catch up with San Antonio Johnson High School c/o 2021 wide receiver Shane Johnson today. The young man recently received his first scholarship offer from the Air Force Academy earlier this week. When asked about the offer he said, “Im just blessed God put me in this position. It feels good that a group of coaches weren’t afraid to break the ice and be that first offer. It really shows they believe in me.”

The staff at Air Force has been in contact with Johnson for a while and OL Coach Lobotzke was the one to make the call and present the scholarship offer. The pitch the staff is giving him is that he fits the perfect size/speed mold and possesses big playmaker ability for they’re looking for to inject into their offense. With this offer sure to draw more attention his way. Johnson understands the responsibility with it , as he states” This offer is only going to make me want more and work that much harder.”

Shane will not be a stranger to the presence of Air Force Academy as his teammate since 7th grade and High school QB Ty Reasoner is a recent commitment to Air Force. “Ty’s been telling me great things about the state of Colorado and what Air Force offers after football is over which is very important to me.”

What is Shane looking for in the school he commits to ?” A school that makes me feel at home , coaches see the person and not just a player and a spot to where if i do not make it to the next level i can walk out with a great degree and get a job to provide for my family.Be it instate or out of state ,doesn’t make a difference.”

With the COVID-19 crisis in effect a few suitors will be missing out on the Wide Out attending their junior day invitations that have been showing interest, those schools being UTSA and Incarnate Word. Junior days for Colleges is a prime time to give those up close and personal scholarship offers.

The 6 foot 3 inch 185 pound receiver recored 33 receptions for 688 yards and 10 Touchdowns in his junior season campaign. When asked about goals for this up coming season Shane expressed “ I want our team to take it game by game and make it as far as we can and personally become a better teammate and leader to the young guys and help lead to victories.”
