UTSA and Rice. The two have played each other 11 times before. Saturday is the 12th time the two meet, putting Rice into a tie with North Texas for the team that UTSA has played the most in football. The Roadrunners have an eight game win streak on the Owls after Rice started the series 3-0. This year is the 10-year anniversary of the last time Rice beat UTSA. Both teams are desperate to get the win this weekend. This one will likely be close from start to finish but I have UTSA winning it by a touchdown.

What a weird couple of weeks it has been for the Roadrunners. Dealing with heavy injury losses this season (which seems to be the norm every year), UTSA is coming out of their needed bye week after a tough loss to ECU. Conversely, Rice is clawing its way out of the bottom of the AAC standings. While possessing one of the tougher remaining schedules left in the American, Rice is looking to right the ship at home this weekend. One thing I'm going to be looking for is how UTSA has edited their offense since two weeks ago. While I thought UTSA could have pulled away in that game against ECU, there seemed to be something holding them back. I expect the run game to be a big part of both offenses this Saturday.

This Saturday, for better or worse, we have the battle of two teams looking to find their footing. I flipped my prediction back and forth between UTSA and Rice all week, and as I write this, I have UTSA in front by the slimmest of margins. Rice to cover. To paraphrase Coach Traylor, I do feel the Roadrunners will end up a lot better at some point this season. I just don’t know when.

UTSA will head to Rice looking to get back in the win column. The Roadrunners are coming off a bye week, while the Owls are coming off a 21-20 home loss to the Charlotte 49ers. Both teams are looking for their first AAC win. Here, I look for the Roadrunners to win on the road in this one, with the offense getting on track and playing a clean game with no turnovers and the defense forcing a couple of their own.

Roadrunners on the road. While I have them winning this game, I need to see some consistent life offensively with this squad. It hasn’t happened yet this season but i do not see this program being under .500 this year and they will beat teams when it’s close talent wise because of the advantage of Coach Traylor in my eyes. The defense will give up points but i think Rice will assist with errors in a UTSA victory.

This is about as a must win as it gets for the Roadrunners. A loss tomorrow and this season will likely spiral quickly. While the bigger aspirations are gone for this team hope is still there for a conference run. UTSA goes into Rice and look a little bit more like the Roadrunners of old.
