UTSA looks to close out the 2024 season the way they started it, with a win. The Roadrunners will try to get that season closing win in the Myrtle Beach Bowl against a Coastal Carolina team that has lost several of its star players to the transfer portal. UTSA will also be going for a second straight bowl win after going 0-4 in its first four bowl trips before beating Marshall last year in the Frisco Bowl. UTSA and Coastal Carolina have been two of the best teams in the group of five this decade. One of them will suffer their first losing season this decade. UTSA will be able to continue its streak of games with a takeaway and a sack on the way to a win over the Chanticleers.

With the new format for the College Football Playoff, this season has seen the debut of some rip-roaring postseason games on campus, so it seems fitting that we get one more with UTSA vs. Coastal Carolina. Yes, the Roadrunners and the Chanticleers are playing at the home field of the latter team, and I’m expecting a great environment compared to the sometimes lightly-attended neutral bowl sites.

As far as the game itself, expect a Coastal Carolina squad that has been decimated by the portal to still put up a respectable fight. It may get a little dicey at times, but UTSA will have enough in the tank to pull away by the 4th quarter.

UTSA and Coastal Carolina finally get to face-off, maybe about two years too late, but I'll take it! Mrytle Beach will be hosting both squads on a very early Christmas Eve-Eve time slot. Both teams on paper look well-matched. Both teams finished the season 6-6, have explosive offenses, and posses defenses capable of takeaways. Something throwing a wrench in all of the matchups in the sudden emergence of the transfer portal this month. Coastal Carolina took a gut punch, while UTSA has lost just a couple contributors on the year. However, Coastal boasting a relatively unknown gameplan this week might be the ultimate wrench thrown at UTSA's playbook this Monday.

The UTSA Roadrunners (6-6, 4-4 American Athletic Conference) have had an up-and-down season, but they are playing in their fifth straight bowl game, where they will take on Coastal Carolina (6-6, 3-5 Sun Belt Conference) in the Myrtle Beach Bowl. The last time out, the Roadrunners dropped a close one to Army 29-24 but had won in their previous three games before becoming bowl-eligible and scored over 44 points in each.

I look for UTSA to win this one, finish with a winning record and second straight bowl win, and for Owen McCown to have a huge game.

I Like what I am seeing from the Roadrunners offense over the last 5 weeks. That, along with all of the opt outs and changes going on at Coastal Carolina gives me extreme confidence in UTSA getting the victory. Finishing with a winning record and consecutive bowl championships are two attainable goals to reach in this game. I like where Owen McCown is in his development and leadership with this offense. Just keep Coastal Carolina under 31 points is asked for by me of the defense.

What a roller coaster this season has been! From the lows of the losses to Tulsa and Rice, to the high of a ranked win against Memphis and a resounding victory over UNT, this season had a bit of everything—except a road win for UTSA. Now, it’s do or die for the 2024 Roadrunners.

They head to Myrtle Beach to face the Chanticleers of Coastal Carolina, aiming for that elusive first road win. Failing to beat a team decimated by the transfer portal would leave a sour taste heading into the 2025 season. The Roadrunners will rise to the occasion and dominate on Monday morning.
