The UTSA football season is inching closer, so it is time to take a look at each scholarship player on the current roster as we prepare for the 2015 season. We'll go in reverse numerical order, continuing with No. 56, linebacker Dalton Miller.
What we know:
Dalton Miler is a player every program needs, even if he doesn't get a ton of press. Miller, a junior linebacker, has seen action in the past two seasons, primarily on special teams. He had five tackles in nine games as a sophomore In 2014, recording one tackle for loss. His stats were similar in nine games of action as a freshman in 2012 before redshirting the 2013 season. He's listed as a Hawk linebacker, but the emergence of Marcos Curry and the JUCO addition of La'Kel Bass appears to put Miller on the outside-looking-in for a starting spot in 2015.
What we don't know:
We've never seen Miller man the Hawk linebacker position on a consistent basis and he may not ever crack the starting lineup at UTSA. That is okay, though, because he is a great practice player and does well on special teams. Miller doesn't have the athleticism that some of the other linebackers on the roster possess, but he is a hard-nosed and hard-working football player who the coaches can count on despite not having a huge role on the team.
Expectations:
Expect Miller to keep being used in the same role as he has in his two seasons that he's played football for the Roadrunners. He'll be in the mix to crack the two-deep at Hawk this season, but he's likely the third option at that position. It is likely that Miller will be a specialist on special teams for the 2015 season unless injury occurs at the linebacker position.
