For what ever heights Desoto HighSchool ’23 ATH Johntay Cook II reaches at the high school level you can definitely say it began with his first Varsity start against Converse Judson. “ Man I was a little nervous honestly because it was my first varsity game. After I got hit the first time though ,I knew I was good!” Cook exclaimed. The 6 foot 165 pound sophomore is a national presence on the recruiting trail now with 22 Scholarship offers Texas, Florida State, Alabama, Arizona State and SMU to name a few.

One look at his highlights and you can tell why those schools are making him a priority to be on their teams. Not satisfied or taking anything for granted , Cook strives to be a complete receiver” My blocking can get better,I want to be the total package player(receiver).” Cook says . Desoto made an impressive run this season (10-2)and the young Eagle definitely took notice of things learned during the exciting season”I learned a lot this season and the biggest lesson was not to get rattled, always stay calm and just ball.” Johntay finished with over 40 receptions almost 700 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns.

When he’s not training or practicing you can find Johntay playing basketball or with his closest inspirations and mentors his Father and Uncle working out or even doing Yoga with his Mother. In the high school off season Cook runs with Texas Flex 7on7 squad to stay sharp and facing great competition in tournaments all over the country. A few players he studies and takes from are Ceedee Lamb and Justin Jefferson.

Johntay plays way bigger than his measurements. He’s a versatile threat for the Desoto offense, from bubble screens to fly routes. He high points the ball with the best in the country and probably thanks to the yoga, is extremely acrobatic when making plays. He possesses breakaway speed and elite acceleration to go with great hand catching ability the sky is the limit to what his performances can be. For the next few seasons Johntay Cook II will be a major problem for the state of Texas high school football scene and he is an essential part in keeping the Eagles “Flying High!”.

Johntay Cooks II is not currently ranked in the Rivals system.
