UTSA returns to the friendly confines of the Alamodome looking to shake off their worst offensive performance of 2017. UAB is coming off a 52 point performance vs. Rice. The Blazers have reached the elusive 6 win mark to reach bowl eligibility. The Roadrunners will look to join them this Saturday. Here are you Keys to the Game brought to you by Jackson Financial.

Offense must adapt

Frank Wilson needs to do something to get this offense out of their funk. They cannot continue doing the same things and expect for the offense to magically get fixed. UTSA is out of CUSA title contention. All they have left is bowl eligibility and a possible bowl win. Let Sturm do his thing, whatever that is. I understand that the running is a vital part of this offense, I am not suggesting they abandon it, but Scelfo needs to trust Sturm on 1st and 2nd down. Maybe even throw the ball down field every once in awhile (I know weird concept). I find it hard to believe UTSA is going to lose four straight and miss out on bowl eligibility. Let’s hope this is the week they turn some things around.

Make UAB one dimensional

Easier said than done unfortunately. The Blazers are right behind UTSA in terms of rushing yards per game coming in at 210 per. -- Oddly enough UAB is also right behind UTSA with 190 passing yards per game. Almost identical offensive output both teams will make for a very interesting game this Saturday.

What UTSA must do is try to stop the UAB running attack and make Blazer quarterback A.J Erdely beat you with his arm. Erdely is very Sturmesque throwing for 12 touchdowns and only 4 interceptions. If you have to pick from two poisons it is better to let Erdely try to beat you then Spencer Brown who averaging 117 rushing yards per game.

FINISH THE GAME

Should I just copy and past last week’s blurb and replace FIU with UAB? The answer is yes:

“Fans are not the only ones that have heard or read that UTSA has not beaten a team with a winning record. Frank Wilson and his players know this and they will like nothing more than to rectify this versus UAB. At the same time they have to show they can finish games against good teams. They couldn’t complete the comeback versus USM, they could not score from the 1 yard line vs. FIU, and we all know what happened against UNT. If there was a theme this week it has to be finish.”
