Harris stays home

The sound you hear is UTSA emerging from the rubble. Recruiting is the lifeblood to any good college program and it took Frank Wilson less than six months to prove his reputation as a recruiting ace at LSU was well-earned. The Roadrunners earned a victory before the season even kicks off, gaining a verbal pledge from Clemens High School quarterback Frank Harris.

“It is a great feeling to make my decision and have it off my chest,” Harris said. “I’ve known for about three weeks now and asked the coaches to keep it on the down-low. I’ve always liked UTSA and I’ve visited there multiple times.”

Harris joins fellow local product Bryce Rivers as quarterbacks committed in the 2017 class. UTSA has yet to field a scholarship quarterback from the San Antonio area. Harris, a three-star product, was the District 25-6A offensive player of the year. He’s a dual-threat quarterback with verified 4.7 speed in the 40-yard dash. At 6-foot-1 and 176 pounds, Harris gained offers from more than 15 schools before choosing UTSA.

“After some praying and with my brother coming home from the military, it just felt right to stay close to home. The distance was very important to me,” Harris said. “I want to represent my city. I think with the players already there and the players we’re recruiting, we’ll change this around.”

One of the main reasons for optimism, at least according to Harris, is the new staff. The Roadrunners already hold nine commitments, with three ranked as three-star prospects. Harris is ready to help keep the momentum moving forward on the recruiting trail.

“This is a great coaching staff. They believed in me from the beginning and I can trust them. All of them are straight forward and will tell you what you need to hear, even if you don’t like it. I love the direction we’re going,” he said. “I definitely feel pressure to help us build a great recruiting class and I’m here to help persuade the guys we’re after.”
