Produce More Yards
One of the most important things for UTSA this season is to put up good numbers on the offense. Coming from a season where the Roadrunners averaged only 247.1 yards, it's important for the offense to start the season proving to the fans and themselves that they are an elite football team. In order to do that, they need to put up big- time yardage right from kick off. Not only will it be the key to beating the Cardinals, it also ensures success throughout the season.
Endurance
Not only do the Roadrunners have a lot to prove to themselves and the fans, they will have to do so nationally on ESPN 3. One major thing UTSA will need to do is go hard from start to finish. It makes it almost impossible to beat a team who just won’t quit. The team needs to rally from the energy the Alamodome will give them, and when their gas tanks are almost empty, the Roadrunners need to endure it a little more and rely on the strength and conditioning they’ve been working so hard towards this camp.
Aggressive Defense
UIW has a lot of pride in their O-Line. Their entire line is returning this year, and they expect to carry their winning momentum into the 2019-2020 season. Defensive Coordinator Jason Rollins should prepare an aggressive attack plan and relentless pressure to ensure a successful defensive effort. Linebacker Andrew Martel is a big piece of the Roadrunner defense as his success last year is expected to carry over to this season. If the defense can force UIW QB Jon Copeland out of the pocket and make him uncomfortable, UTSA should have huge success on Saturday.
Frank Harris
After a highly anticipated offseason, the big decision has finally been made by Head Coach Frank Wilson in naming Frank Harris starting quarterback this Saturday against the Cardinals. The competition was fierce all camp long and is still an ongoing battle. UTSA needs a true talent under center in order to be a successful elite team in college football. The San Antonio home-grown talent looks to be a dual threat with a strong passing game and quick feet to get himself out of trouble.
Motivation
It is an ugly fact. The Roadrunners are coming off a rough 3-9 season, and a 6 game losing streak. Saturday, August 31st, 2019 is the first chance of redemption for UTSA Football. From the brilliant coaching staff, down to the subs on special teams, every single player has a role in the game. The number one thing to get them through the battle is motivation to be better than the enemy, and be better than themselves every game. If the Roadrunners come into this game with that mindset, it’ll be a big “W” on the books.
