Now the two meet again in Houston with UTSA in its first year as a member of the American Athletic Conference member and Houston in its first year as a member of the Big 12. Imagine telling both fanbases that nine years ago.

This time the Bobcats will visit the Alamodome and watch the Roadrunners raise their 2022 conference championship banner. There will be added excitement for this game as it will mark the first meeting between Jeff Traylor and his protege GJ Kinne who will be in his first year leading the Bobcats. This year is the start of a home-and-home series in the I-35 rivalry that is scheduled to run through 2031.

The University of Tennessee is two years older than the state of Tennessee. The university was founded in 1794 and is one of the oldest universities in the United States. Tennessee became the 16th state in 1796. This game would make Davy Crockett proud seeing the flagship university of his home state going up against the flagship university of the Alamo City. UTSA is 3-0 all-time in Tennessee, the best record in any state for the Roadrunners.

The last time the two met was the Conference USA Championship game in the Alamodome last December. UTSA makes its first trip to Denton since the final game of the 2021 season when North Texas salvaged its season by ending UTSA's chances at an undefeated season. The Roadrunners are 1-4 in Denton but are 1-1 in games played in November. This year will be the 10-year anniversary of UTSA beating North Texas in Denton in the first game of the series.

UTSA is 2-5 all-time against teams from the state of Florida.

Series History: UTSA leads 1-0. This will be the first meeting in New Orleans

Last Meeting: Nov. 9, 2013 in Alamodome. UTSA won 10-7

Fun Facts: It won't be until Oct. 9 that it is announced whether this game is on Black Friday or Small Business Saturday. It could be the game of the year in the AAC pitting UTSA against defending conference champion Tulane. It was Tulane's 10th conference championship in a history going back to 1893. Tulane was a founding member of the SEC in 1932, won the conference three times and stayed in that conference until 1966. These two schools met once as members of Conference USA in 2013 before Tulane left in 2014 to join the AAC. Now UTSA has joined the AAC and will finally make the trip to New Orleans.
