The third time proved to be the charm for the UTSA women's basketball team. In their third trip to a national postseason tournament, the Roadrunners got their first win on Thursday night with an 80-62 win over the Northern Colorado Bears in the first round of the Women's NIT.

With the win, the Roadrunner women advance to the second round of the WNIT. UTSA will travel to Laramie, Wyoming on Sunday afternoon to face the Wyoming Cowgirls.

It was 16 years to the day since the Roadrunner women had played their first postseason game in the 2008 NCAA Tournament. That night the Roadrunners were sent packing from the round of 64 in Baton Rouge by Texas A&M.

Four years short of a score later the modern-day Roadrunners were on the high end of a tournament game in front of a crowd of 873 in the Convocation Center.

Even before tip-off, the energy in the Convocation Center felt different from other games this season. The crowd made it difficult for a Northern Colorado team that only had nine players available after four players entered the transfer portal between the end of the regular season and the WNIT.

Northern Colorado didn't seem too fazed by the crowd as they went on an 11-0 run in the first quarter to turn a 13-11 UTSA lead into a 22-13 lead. UTSA fought back to cut the deficit to 23-19 after one quarter.

In the second quarter, UTSA got going. The Roadrunners outscored the Bears 21-12 in the second to take a 40-35 lead at halftime. UTSA retook the lead, 28-26, with a three from Jordyn Jenkins at the 6:47 mark of the second quarter and never trailed again.

Jenkins led the Roadrunners with 15 points in the first half. Jenkins would score seven of the first nine points for UTSA in the third quarter as the Roadrunners kept the Bears from getting too close.

The Roadrunners kept their foot down in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Bears 20-7 in the final quarter to set off a celebration that was 43 seasons in the making.

Jenkins finished the night with 27 points for the Roadrunners. Aysia Proctor scored 13 points. Sidney Love and Kyra White both finished with 10 points. White was also one assist short of a double-double.

It's possible the Roadrunners could play again in the Convocation Center if they can advance past Wyoming on Sunday. If Thursday night was the last time the Roadrunners play in the Convo until November they left it with quite a memory for all in attendance.

They left it as winners.
