UTSA will be back in a familiar place for its fifth bowl game in program history. For the second time in three seasons the Roadrunners will play for the Frisco Bowl trophy at Toyota Stadium in Frisco.

This time the Roadrunners will face the Marshall Thundering Herd in the Scooter's Coffee. UTSA and Marshall will square off on Tuesday, December 19 at 8 p.m. in a game televised on ESPN. UTSA is in its fourth straight bowl game. Marshall will be playing in its seventh straight bowl game and 10th bowl game in the last 10 years.

Marshall comes into the game with a 6-6 record but went 1-5 on the road this season. This will be the fourth time UTSA and Marshall meet on a football field. The Roadrunners and Thundering Herd met three times as members of Conference USA. Marshall won twice in Huntington, West Virginia in 2013 and 2018. UTSA won the only time the two met in Texas, 9-7 in the Alamodome in 2017.

UTSA will play its third bowl game in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. In 2020 the Roadrunners were originally scheduled to face SMU in the Frisco Bowl but SMU backed out and UTSA instead played Louisiana in the First Responder Bowl played at SMU's stadium. Two years ago UTSA took on San Diego State in a bowl game pitting two teams with a combined record of 23-3. The Roadrunners fell to the Aztecs 38-24.

The Roadrunners are 0-4 all-time in bowl games but this will be first time UTSA has played a bowl against a team without a winning record. It will also be the first time UTSA's bowl opponent is unranked since the 2016 New Mexico Bowl against the New Mexico Lobos.
